Dr. Rafael Monleon

Rafael Monleon founded Ulnus after more than 25 years in poultry genetics, animal health and food production, 20 of them in Asia-Pacific, in markets from Pakistan to Japan.
At Aviagen he was Regional Veterinarian, Asia, from 2006 to 2013, and Business Manager (VP), Asia-Pacific, from 2018 to 2025, with seats on the boards of several Aviagen subsidiaries. Between those roles he managed a business unit at BioChek from 2013 to 2014, overseeing global poultry diagnostics, and was at MSD Animal Health (Merck Animal Health in the United States) as Director of Global Corporate Accounts from 2014 to 2016, and from 2016 to 2018 as General Manager for the Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei cluster. He began in food safety as an Official Veterinary Surgeon with Eville & Jones and the Food Standards Agency's Meat Hygiene Service, later overseeing compliance at several processing plants across the United Kingdom as Deputy Area Regional Manager.
He is a board certified poultry veterinarian (Diplomate, American College of Poultry Veterinarians), with a DVM from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and an MSpVM from North Carolina State University. He holds MBAs from UCLA Anderson and the National University of Singapore, completed the Harvard Advanced Management Program and the London Business School M&A programme, and is a Certified Director of the Thai Institute of Directors.
He was named Asian Poultry Breeder Personality of the Year in 2019 and is a member of the AAAP Foundation Gold Feather Guild.
